Turkish authorities believe Jamal Khashoggi, the missing Saudi Arabian journalist, was murdered inside the Kingdom's Istanbul consulate by a "special team" sent from Riyadh for the objective.
Turkish officials have said they believe Khashoggi, 59, a critic of the Saudi leadership and a contributor to The Washington Post's Global Opinions section, was killed by a team of 15 Saudis flown in specifically to carry out the attack.
But other Turkish officials have said they believe that Khashoggi was killed by Saudi agents inside the consulate.
Turkish officials have been drip-feeding details in the astonishing case of his alleged Saudi state-sponsored abduction and murder, but have yet to fulfil promises to release evidence relating to a black vehicle that left the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on the same day Khashoggi vanished last week.
Ankara announced on Saturday it had opened an official probe into his disappearance.
Other Turkish officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told outlets that they believed Khashoggi had been killed.
"The official strongly denounced these baseless allegations", the agency wrote, adding that a team of Saudi investigators were in Turkey working with local authorities. Turkish officials say they believe Khashoggi is being held inside the consulate building, which they can not search without an invitation.

"We have a huge benefit from the first one", he said.
The potential assassination of a journalist on foreign soil raises questions over how the United States will confront Saudi Arabia, an ally the Trump administration has made significant outreach to.
But since the emergence of Prince Mohammed, 33, as the center of power in the kingdom previous year, Khashoggi has been openly critical of the monarchy.
