Andy Robertson has faith Liverpool can maintain a Premier League challenge this season - but dismissed any suggestion of there being a battle exclusively with Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp's men played out a 0-0 draw with Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, with Riyad Mahrez missing a late penalty for the visitors.

Everyone misses penalties - even big, big, big players.

"It was so intense since the last global break", he said after the game. They have been on a great run.

The Premier League title became tighter as the defending champions, Manchester City was held on a goalless draw by Liverpool at Anfield.

"Somebody asked me: 'Is the level of the game because of the intensity?' Already in the question, there is criticism; it could have been better if you were fresher".

Yes, Chelsea are still unbeaten and Sarri has made an impressive start, but they are still a work in progress compared to City and Liverpool, who remain the teams to beat.

"Mahrez hasn't hit the ground running at Manchester City - he's not been incredible since joining and he's fighting with some really good players to get into the team".

The vice-captain has been an integral part of the team in the opening months of the season, largely being a key starter in the centre of the park.

It depends on your point of view, but the reality is that this was simply a day when the defenders turned up and did what they are paid to do. But we all keep going and now it is internationals.

"I look at Liverpool's midfield and I bet they are three great lads, who work their socks off but they just haven't got that little bit of quality in games like this to look one way and deliver a pass the other way".

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur sit just two points behind the leading pack, too, and Robertson expects the race to involve several teams throughout the campaign.

"I've said it a few times, that if we couldn't be champions last season then Manchester City are very welcome", Klopp told Sky Sports. We tried to win but at the end we need to be happy - I need to be happy - that we didn't lose it because of the penalty.
