Washington D.C. Oct 05: United States Vice President Mike Pence on Thursday launched a scathing attack on China, accusing them of using predatory economic practices and military aggression against the USA and trying to cripple President Donald Trump's chances of winning re-election.
Speaking before the Economic Club of Washington, Kudlow - with echoes of the Iraq war - spoke of a "trade coalition of the willing to confront China".
"Regrettably, we found that China has been attempting to interfere in our upcoming 2018 election", Trump said.
"By one estimate, more than 80 percent of US counties targeted by China voted for President Trump in 2016; now China wants to turn these voters against our administration", Pence will say.
Even so, Pence said: "As a senior career member of our intelligence community recently told me, what the Russians are doing pales in comparison to what China is doing across this country". They include public steps such as targeting Chinese tariffs to industries in states that are crucial to Trump in the midterms as well as behind-the-scenes actions like coercing USA businesses to speak out against the Trump administration.
Cited by Pence as a measure of menacing Chinese influence was the digital altering of an abysmal 2012 remake of the equally mindless and reactionary 1984 potboiler "Red Dawn" to change the villains invading America into North Koreans rather than Chinese, thereby making the film marketable in China. Those tariffs have taken a toll on farm states like Iowa.
US Vice President Mike Pence delivered a blistering diatribe against China Thursday created to ratchet up already intense economic and military tensions that have produced a growing trade war and increasingly risky confrontations between US and Chinese forces in the South China Sea.
"Sadly, China's rulers have refused to take that path - so far".

In excerpts of his speech seen by reporters, Pence was also to call attention to an incident in which a destroyer, the USS Decatur, traveled within 12 nautical miles (22km) of the Spratly Islands (Nansha Islands, 南沙群島) on Sunday.
"China wants a different American president", Pence will say, according to excerpts of prepared remarks from his office. "Instead, China has chosen economic aggression, which has in turn emboldened its growing military".
Senior Chinese officials have also tried to influence business leaders to condemn United States trade actions, leveraging their desire to maintain their operations in China.
National security adviser John Bolton said much of what the USA knows about Chinese activities in the United States remains classified.
"We will not be intimidated; we will not stand down", Pence said.
