Beef recall due to salmonella outbreak

6.5 Million Pounds of Ground Beef Recalled Beef recall due to salmonella outbreak
Conrad Doyle | 08 October, 2018, 08:14

"JBS USA initiated a voluntary recall of ground beef products from our Tolleson, Ariz., beef production facility due to the potential presence of Salmonella", the company said. They have an establishment number "EST. 267" inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Roughly 6.9 million pounds of raw beef are being recalled after being linked to a salmonella outbreak.

The Food Safety and Inspection Service noted that it is concerned some of the products may still be in consumers' freezers. Return it to the store or throw it away.

According to CNN, the USDA was first alerted to the salmonella outbreak back in September, and 57 cases of salmonellapoisoning linked to the JB Tolleson beef were reported in 16 states between August 5 and Sept. 6. However, older people and infants with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop severe illness and some severe cases may require hospitalization. The Salmonella lawyers of Marler Clark have represented thousands of victims of Salmonella and other foodborne illness outbreaks and have recovered over $650 million for clients. Salmonella infection may spread from the intestines to the bloodstream and then to other places in the body.

The raw ground beef was sold under numerous names, including the Showcase brand at Walmart. Sixty-one percent are male. Symptoms of salmonella poisoning like vomiting and diarrhea usually arise within 12 to 72 hours of exposure. Of 45 people with information available, 14 (31%) have been hospitalized.

If you or a family member became ill with a Salmonella infection, including Reactive Arthritis or Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), after consuming food and you're interested in pursuing a legal claim, contact the Marler Clark Salmonella attorneys for a free case evaluation.

In interviews, 92% of the 39 people investigators questioned said they ate ground beef at home before they got sick. Several patients ate ground beef at the same events or purchased ground beef from the same grocery store chains. FSIS, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and state public health and agriculture partners have now determined that raw ground beef was the probable source of the reported illnesses.
