'The Situation' Is Going to Prison

Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino sentenced to eight months in prison in tax evasion case 'The Situation' Is Going to Prison
Hannah Rogers | 06 October, 2018, 00:06

A federal judge handed down the sentence shortly after the star, whose real name is Michael Sorrentino, received a two-year sentence on the same charge. Several of his fellow Jersey Shore cast members were on hand for today's sentencing, which MTV was reportedly filming for an upcoming episode.

The pair was indicted in 2014 on charges of conspiring with their accountant to evade taxes by underreporting income. Videos on social media showed the reality television stars hugging Sorrentino as he walked into the courthouse.

Prosecutors painted a contrasting picture.

Sorrentino pleaded guilty in January to one count of tax evasion, Marc pleaded guilty to one count of aiding in the preparation of a false and fraudulent tax return.

Sorrentino's brother, Marc, also pleaded guilty and was sentenced to spend two years in prison Friday.

"Michael accepts the court's judgment", his attorney Henry Klingeman said in a statement.

"With celebrity comes responsibility", she told him. Sorrentino reportedly paid no taxes in 2011, despite making somewhere around $2 million.

The series ran from 2009 to 2012 and followed his and his roommates' debaucherous lives while crashing at a shore house in Seaside Heights. The cast members were known for their drunken antics and the phrase they used to describe their lifestyle: "gym, tan, laundry".

We can only hope there will be at least one Jersey Shore Family Prison Visit.
