UPDATED, 1:47 PM: The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said today that Marion "Suge" Knight has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for the 2015 hit-and-run death of a man near the set of a commercial being shot for the N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton. He wore a large cross and orange jail attire during Thursday's sentencing, which drew to a close a almost four year court saga over the fatal 2015 confrontation.

Knight, 53, will now likely live out most, if not the rest, of his life in a California prison.

Carter's daughter Crystal called Knight a "low-life thug, " "career criminal" and "a disgusting, selfish disgrace to the human species".

Shortly afterward, Knight spent several years in prison for violating parole on assault and weapons convictions.

He then ran over another man, businessman Terry Carter, who died from his injuries.

Surveillance video from the incident showed the two men confront Suge in his auto when he backed up his vehicle, striking one of the men. The Death Row Records co-founder claimed he had a lifetime deal with Dre to collect 30 percent of his earnings, including a stake in the producer's $3 billion deal between Apple and Beats. He included a screenshot of a conversation through text message that showed someone warning him that he had "said too much" and that it was "time for him to go".

"I wanted justice for my dad and now we've finally got it, kind of", she said.

His previous convictions make him ineligible for probation, Los Angeles Superior Court Ronald Coen ruled Thursday.

Terry Carter's wife, Lillian Carter, read a letter in court Thursday, saying she only sees references to his death when she enters his name online.

Tupac Shakur became the label's star artist later in the 90s before he was shot and killed in Las Vegas in 1996, while riding in a auto driven by Knight.

He did not look at the family as they spoke of their sorrow and anger.

The agreement also cleared Knight in two other cases, both from 2014.

Weeks after pleading no contest in relation to a hit-and-run that left one man dead and another injured, former hip hop heavyweight Suge Knight has been sentenced to 28 years in prison.
