United have made a terrible start to the season, their worst in 29 years, with the Reds in tenth place in the Premier League going into this weekend and knocked out of the League Cup by Derby.

It leaves United closer to the relegation zone than Premier League leaders and looking to avoid going five successive matches without a win for just the second time this century. Saturday's match against Newcastle could prove to be decisive.

United are without a win in four matches in all competitions and when put to Mourinho that such a run was not acceptable for a club of this size, he said: "Yes, I accept (it is not good enough)".

They travel to Old Trafford on Saturday to battle Manchester United, who are also enduring a frustrating spell under Jos Mourinho.

Manchester United v Newcastle can be viewed by UK residents on BT Sport 1 and BT Sport 1 HD, which is channel 430 or 408 respectively on Sky and channel 531 and 527 respectively for Virgin Media users.

Team News! First up Manchester United.

Marcos Rojo, Jesse Lingard and Ander Herrera all missed the Champions League group stage against Valencia in midweek and have not recovered in time to face the Magpies.

"[We have had] recovering time for the players that played against Valencia and good work for the others that obviously were in flawless condition to train", Mourinho added. "All of them have been really strong every year with good managers, good players, so I don't see any fragile Manchester United team".

Midfielder Scott McTominay, who dropped into defence after Bailly left, was taken off for Marouane Fellaini after the break, with Nemanja Matic and Chris Smalling joining a deep-lying Paul Pogba as part of a back three.

A failure to do so ahead of the Newcastle game could be viewed by Mourinho as evidence of a loss of faith and therefore a clear signal that his time is up at United. Benitez, on the other hand, will know his Newcastle team need to start picking up points or face the very real reality of being cut off from the rest of the bottom-half clubs at the base of the table. I said last season was a fantastic season for us.
