Having the ability to visit multiple sites with a reusable lander, such as this one presented by Lockheed Martin, supports many worldwide, commercial and scientific collaborations, in addition to NASA's sustainable exploration of the Moon. According to a newly published Lockheed white paper, the lunar lander would carry a crew of four astronauts and an additional 2,000 pounds of payload cargo to the surface of the Moon where it could stay for up to two weeks before returning to the Gateway without refueling on the surface.

The spacecraft, known as the Mars Base Camp Precursor Lunar Lander, would use the Lunar Orbital Platform-Gateway as its home base, which NASA said will start building near the Moon in 2022, Space.com reports.

Exposure to galactic cosmic radiation during deep space travel, such as to Mars, might significantly damage gastrointestinal functions in astronauts, say researchers, led by one of an Indian-origin.

NASA has recently submitted to Congress a plan called the National Space Exploration Campaign, which immediately follows President Donald Trump Space Policy Directive-1 signed in December 2017. That craft will be sent into space aboard NASA's Space Launch System (SLS), still under development and created to be the most powerful rocket ever built.

Among the plan's strategic objectives, NASA calls for returning USA astronauts on the surface of the moon. According to a lunar mineralogical map released by NASA previous year, water is present nearly everywhere on the moon's surface, albeit in minute amounts.

The NASA's Gateway project provides global lunar access for a Moon lander.

NASA will enable SpaceIL to receive communications services with the spacecraft and conduct deep space exploration through NASA's huge antenna network, which will help communicate with earth.

The company also announced a collaboration with OHB SE and MT Aerospace on a future Blue Moon mission.

The agreement was signed by NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine and Avi Blasberger, director of the Israel Space Agency, in the presence of SpaceIL CEO Ido Anteby.
