In Egypt, Melania Trump backs 'highly qualified' Kavanaugh for Supreme Court

USA first lady Melania Trump feeds a baby elephant milk with a bottle, at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust elephant orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya Friday, Oct. 5, 2018.

She showed off the very clean, bright, white hat while travelling in an open-air vehicle to see wild animals.

"Pith helmets - so-called because they are made of the material sholapith - were worn by European explorers and imperial administrators in Africa, parts of Asia and the Middle East in the 19th century before being adopted by military officers, rapidly becoming a symbol of status - and oppression", Guardian reported.

Mrs Trump's visit to Africa is focussed on child welfare and education.

Her husband on Thursday tweeted: "Our country's great First Lady, Melania, is doing really well in Africa".

Trump, who has also visited Ghana and Malawi, kicked off her day with a stop at an elephant orphanage, where she helped bottle feed an elephant and patted another, clearly having a good time.

US First Lady Melania Trump held talks in the Egyptian capital Saturday on the final leg of a solo four-nation tour of Africa that will also see her visit the Pyramids.

Ms Trump's focus on wildlife stands in contrast to efforts by her husband to lift a ban on some elephant trophy imports, which created a public outcry past year.

One Twitter user hypothesized the First Lady's outfit was a specific combination.

"We are having funding, so we are helping the countries, and we are working hard for helping them, and we will continue to help", she said. "It's a reflection of her outdated understanding of Africa", wrote Kim Yi Dionne, a writer covering Africa politics.

The First Lady held a one-hour meeting with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his wife at the palace, the longest of her tour, and was then driven to the U.S. embassy before heading to the Pyramids of Giza.

Trump then made a brief stop at the heavily-fortified US Embassy in downtown Cairo, driving through streets almost deserted due to a national holiday marking the 45th anniversary of Egypt's 1973 war with Israel. She has posed for photos with babies and children, often murmuring the same things at each stop - "Beautiful!" and "Hi, guys!" - while holding their hands or waving at the cameras.
