USA sportswear giant Nike says it is "deeply concerned" by rape allegations against star client Cristiano Ronaldo while shares in his club Juventus fell nearly 10 percent on the Italian stock exchange on Friday. It had already called the allegation against the Portugal captain "concerning" in a statement to the AP that reminded "ambassadors to conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with EA's values".

The club's social media accounts have been criticised for tweets they posted on Thursday.

Nike has worked with Ronaldo since 2003 and in 2016 announced a lifetime deal with him which could be worth as much as $1 billion, according to Forbes magazine.

Cristiano Ronaldo's rape case has caused a huge uproar amongst the fans and a large number of them want the player to be banned from active football.

"My clear conscious (sic) will thereby allow me to wait with tranquillity the results of any and all investigations", he added.

German news outlet Der Spiegel reported last week that Mayorga was seeking to declare the alleged non-disclosure agreement void, as she has continued to suffer trauma over the alleged incident and has been emboldened by the MeToo movement.

A week after a Nevada woman filed a civil lawsuit accusing Ronaldo of rape in 2009, attempts by the five-time world player of the year and his Italian club to sway public opinion in his favor have not succeeded since the allegation surfaced.

"I will not reveal the details of the conversation we three had", said Santos when pressed by reporters on his discussion with Ronaldo and Portuguese Football Federation president Fernando Gomes.

"They have to tread carefully so that they are not pre-judging him before an investigation reaches its conclusion", said Simon Leaf, a sports and commercial lawyer at London-based Mischon de Reya. At the time, Santos suggested that his absence was temporary. While he's been left out of the Portugal national football squad for their upcoming worldwide fixtures, he's been publicly backed by Juventus, to whom he transferred over the summer.

The 33-year-old was suspended for the Champions League win over Young Boys in midweek, having been sent off against Valencia in Juve's opening group game.

Allegri acknowledged that it was a "delicate moment" but said Ronaldo had "large shoulders".

On Saturday, the Serie A leaders travel to Udinese in the north east of Italy looking to extend their 100 percent winning streak this season to ten games in all competitions.
