Toyota recalls 2.4 million hybrid cars due to stalling problems

Toyota announces new recall of 2.4 million hybrid cars Toyota Just Announced Its Second Massive Recall of Prius Hybrids in a Month

In a statement, the company said that some vehicles could fail to switch to a "failsafe" driving mode, increasing the risk of potential crashes.

The automobile firm in September said it was recalling more than one million hybrid cars globally after uncovering a technical problem that could cause fires.

Toyota Motor Corp is recalling 744 Prius hybrid cars in Singapore, as part of its global recall of 2.4 million vehicles over a system issue that can lead to stalling.

The recall of Prius and Auris cars includes 1.25 million in Japan, 830,000 in North America and 290,000 in Europe, of which about 55,000 are in the UK.

Auto owners of Prius, Prius + and Auris hybrid models are advised to ensure the software on their vehicle is updated - but drivers do not need to do anything just yet.

However, the carmaker said that in "rare situations", the fault could cause vehicles to stall when entering "failsafe" driving mode.

To fix the problem, Toyota will update software in the vehicles.

"There have been no incidence of injury or accident in Australia because of the fault", a Toyota spokesperson told 9NEWS.

Toyota is recalling 975,000 cars in the United States for stalling and airbag problems, the company said on Friday.

The software will be updated for all involved vehicles at no charge to the owner. "/ On Friday said it was recalling a total of 2.43 million gasoline hybrid vehicles at home and overseas over a hybrid system issue which can lead to stalling".

Should this occur, the vehicle could lose power and stall, although functions such as the power steering, brakes and lights would still work.

In 2016, it announced the recall of 3.37 million vehicles globally over problems with airbags and a fuel emission control unit.
