'60 Minutes' Executive Producer Jeff Fager Out At CBS

After CBS fired "60 Minutes" producer Jeff Fager on Wednesday, Fager claimed that he'd been ousted for sending a "harsh" text to a CBS reporter who was covering the allegations of sexual misconduct made against him.

CBS News president David Rhodes said Wednesday that Fager was sacked for violating company policy.

The departure of Fager adds tumult to a company that already has plenty of it. Les Moonves, the chairman and CEO of CBS, resigned on Sunday, following the second story from New Yorker's Ronan Farrow describing alleged sexual harassment and assault by the media mogul.

Fager, who has denied the claims of harassment, released a statement confirming he was sacked because "I sent a text message to one of our CBS reporters" over her coverage of newer allegations against him that The New Yorker published Sunday.

It was shortly after outlets began to pick up the news of Fager's exit that he released a statement of his own, in light of CBS News' refusing to comment on his specific violation.

Rhodes said that Fager's longtime No. 2, Bill Owens, will manage the newsmagazine while a search is underway "for a new executive producer of the program". My language was harsh and, despite the fact that journalists receive harsh demands for fairness all the time, CBS did not like it.

In November 2017, CBS News dropped Charlie Rose following a Washington Post investigation detailing allegations of unwanted sexual advances toward women.

CBS launched an investigation into Fager over the summer.

"If you repeat these false accusations without any of your own reporting to back them up you will be held responsible for harming me", Fager allegedly wrote in the text, according to Duncan.

Now the reporter who received the message has revealed its contents.

Steve Kroft, a veteran correspondent on "60 Minutes", told CNN, "Over the years Jeff Fager has done a remarkable job managing '60 Minutes, ' but the text message to Jericka Duncan was threatening and inappropriate". He also introduced "CBS This Morning" in January 2012. The latest allegation against Fager comes from Sarah Johansen, a former CBS intern, who told Farrow that the "60 Minutes" executive producer groped her at a work party.

Jeff Fager is leaving the company effective immediately.

"This is an outrageous claim and it didn't happen", Fager said in response. 60 Minutes is the most significant news broadcast on television.

The 36-year CBS veteran has been at the center of allegations that CBS's news division fostered a culture of harassment.
