The 22-year-old, from Bournemouth, is just the fifth British victor of a major and only the third home victor of this event since it achieved that status in 2001, following in the footsteps of Karen Stupples (2004) and Catriona Matthew (2009).
"I just got a huge knot in my throat and I just had to put my head down", he said after closing with a 1-under 69 for his first World Golf Championship title.
"I was so happy with the way I putted, I was rolling it well and I was seeing the lines quite clearly", Hall said.
"If I did, I would have probably hit a bad shot, so I stayed very calm and patient".
Phatlum found trouble at the 17th and missed a short putt for bogey to give Hall a three-stroke lead with one hole play.
She got the final day off to a very strong start, scoring a birdie on the par-3 first hole to draw level with the Thai golfer.
Home favorite Georgia Hall (68) was in the tie for second place along with, who was leading by two strokes on 11 under when she lost her ball in a gorse bush at No. 17 and wound up with a double-bogey 6.
Named in honor of a famous Masters victory, Georgia Hall has her hands on one of the big trophies in women's golf at the age of 22.
Golf-loving Wayne long saw this coming.
Hall had an erratic day from tee to green at Royal Lytham and St Annes but some wonderful scrambling kept her firmly in contention for a first major title.
"It was so nice to have that backing and there were so many people behind me that I feel that was the reason I had good shots".
Phatlum, who has four runner-up finishes on the LPGA Tour but has never won in almost a decade of toil, will head into Sunday's final round at 13-under 203.
She went into the final round at Royal Lytham trailing Pornanong Phatlum by a shot and did not hit the front until the 16th hole, eventually going on to win the tournament by two shots.
"I can't believe how many of you fans came out to support me, I am so grateful".
Minjee Lee, who opened with a 7-under par 65 to lead on day one at Lytham, was in the hunt come Sunday.
After not qualifying for the ANA Inspiration, Hall made the cut in the following two majors and then finished a brilliant tied-third in the Women's British Open at Kingsbarns before earning another top-10 finish in the Evian Championship. "I felt like I putted my par putts really well, but the birdies putts weren't dropping that much, but to have a bogey free round especially at a major, I will definitely take it, so hopefully I have a lower one tomorrow". It was ultimately a double-bogey at the 71st hole of the championship that ultimately cost her a win on Sunday.
When the putt dropped and Bournemouth's Georgia Hall was confirmed as the Women's British Open champion she was lifted high up into the air by father Wayne with the packed grandstands in rapture.
