Ben Stokes made "stupid noises" and "camp gestures" to mimic two gay men outside a nightclub, a doorman said on Tuesday at the England cricketer's trial for alleged affray.

On the CCTV footage shown to the jury, Stokes and fellow England cricketer Alex Hales are seen catching up with the four and overtaking them and then, the prosecution claimed, Stokes can be seen turning to look back at Barry and Ali.

Prosecutors say Stokes was the "main aggressor" in a fight that broke out after an England match.

Stokes is standing trial at Bristol Crown Court accused of knocking out two other men outside a nightclub in the southwest English city in September a year ago.

"In response one of the guys said 'Shut the f*** up and f**** off or I'll bottle you.' At the time he was holding a bottle in his right hand". In it, Ali denied saying anything offensive to either Barry or O'Connor, but accepted that "one of the guys" became "quite irate" after "banter" between the men. I didn't feel I had an option to leave in the heat of the situation.

Mr. Stokes, in a written statement given to police after he had been arrested, said he had acted in self-defence when punching Mr. Ali and Mr.

"At this point, I felt vulnerable and frightened".

He said the pair "scuffled" and ended up on the floor, before Hale came at him from behind - grabbing and pulling him.

"While I was trying to stop the fighting, one of the males struck the other in the head with a clenched fist". "I can only guess I thought I was going to be attacked".

"As I was on my own, when I separated two of them more people carried on behind me".

The court heard Mr Spure identified Stokes to police officers, who then arrested the cricketer.

He also denied flicking a cigarette butt at or towards anyone.

"Mr Stokes, Mr Hales, Mr Barry and Mr O'Connor are outside of the door of Mbargo together - laughing", Cole said.

Medical evidence was also provided to verify the claims Ali sustained a swelling from a fractured eye-socket and a cracked molar during the attack.

Mr Cunningham refused to allow them back inside as it was past closing time, Bristol Crown Court heard.

Ali was taken to Bristol Royal Infirmary by ambulance, with doctors noting that he had suffered a fracture to the medial orbital wall on the left side of his face.
