Parkland Shooting Suspect Says He Heard Voices

"Why didn't he kill me?" he repeated over and over.

In late July, a Broward County judge ordered parts of a transcript of what Cruz said to be released while excluding the "substance" of his alleged videotaped confession. The recorder inside the room was still running.

The district publicly released the report Friday with almost two-thirds of its content blacked out to protect Cruz's privacy rights.

Cruz told the detective he wanted a psychologist "to find out what's wrong with me". Why didn't he kill me?

Curcio asked what the voice told him.

The brutal shooting that took place at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on February 14th is still a very sensitive event to be discussed by many. He did not resist arrest.

During the interrogation, he confesses to the Parkland mass shooting, the report states.

A Broward County grand jury indicted the 19-year-old Cruz in March on 17 counts of premeditated murder in the first degree and 17 counts of attempted murder in the first degree, and a judge entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf during his arraignment.

Officials who released the transcript on Monday will also make public an edited video of the interview this week.

Cruz's attorneys, however, have painted the confessed shooter as an individual with severe and complex psychological problems. Like, why? Like, we've. this is not who you are. "You're all going to die". John Curcio a male voice inside his head that he called "the evil side".

A detective left and when he came back, Cruz said "Kill me, Just f***ing kill me".

Runcie said the board always meant to eventually release the entire Cruz report. Later he refers to himself as a "coward". When the detective presses him as to why he's unsure, Cruz replies, "I don't deserve it". He estimated spending about $4,000 on weaponry.

"Do they really?" Cruz said. Cruz couldn't remember exactly, but he didn't want to do it. Curcio asked why he didn't.

"The voice is in here", he said, apparently pointing to his head.

The suspect said that he sometimes used marijuana or Xanax to silence the voice. "And then it's me. Just f***ing kill me" when the officer left the room.

Cruz at one point asked the detective if he was a psychologist and then requested one.

Over the course of the interview, which began shortly after 6 p.m., about four hours after the shooting, Curcio appeared increasingly incredulous at Cruz's insistence that the voice pushed him to hurt himself and others.

The report, compiled by a consultant hired by the Broward school district, also showed that Cruz had exhibited troubling behavior as early as age three, when he was kicked out of pre-K program, having shown aggressive behavior, and had been classified as needing special education because of apparent developmental delays.

"I'm not", Cruz responded. "You didn't want to stop the demon". Cruz's attorneys had wanted it suppressed, saying its disclosure could hinder his right to a fair trial.

His request effectively ended the police interview.

Several board members said at a tense meeting Tuesday that they found out about the case only by reading it in the Sun Sentinel.

"You - your - people think you're a monster now", Zachary Cruz told him.

"I'm sorry, dude", Nikolas Cruz told him.

"No." Cruz said he goes fishing with the demon.
