Jack Dorsey, Twitter's co-founder and chief executive, said in a series of messages posted Tuesday evening that the social networking service had not suspended accounts associated with Jones, 44, because he had not violated the company's policies.
Dorsey's decision has not gone down well with some, however, with Reddit's former CEO suggesting it could lead to Twitter's demise. However, he tried to circumvent this ban by live streaming content on other platforms, leading the site to terminate his account permanently.
In recent days, Jones and his website, InfoWars, have been banned or otherwise punished by YouTube, Spotify, Apple, Facebook and others.
Dorsey said that Twitter wouldn't hesitate to take action if Jones did violate its terms of use but that the firm was not about to react to outside influence. We'll enforce if he does.
When Apple removed the podcast Sunday, it issued a statement that said, "Apple does not tolerate hate speech, and we have clear guidelines that creators and developers must follow to ensure we provide a safe environment for all of our users".
He said he wanted the company to avoid succumbing to outside pressure but instead impartially enforce straightforward principles "regardless of political viewpoints". "That's not us", Dorsey wrote.
Infowars host Alex Jones has been booted off Facebook, Apple, Spotify, and YouTube for violating the companies' hate-speech guidelines.
Dorsey appeared to take a swipe at the tech platforms that banned Jones and said Twitter refused to take "one-off actions to make us feel good" or make decisions that could ultimately fuel "new conspiracy theories". "That is what serves the public conversation best".
"It's critical journalists document, validate, and refute such information directly so people can form their own opinions".
Facebook says it has taken down four pages belonging to right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones for violating its hate speech and bullying policies.
Twitter, which now stands out as one of the few social media sites refusing to curtail Jones's online reach, has been attacked by conservatives claiming that the platform is stifling them as it aims to purge fake accounts and automated bots.
