OSU Fans rally at Ohio Stadium for Urban Meyer

Noah Ferguson | 07 August, 2018, 07:12

Smith was part of Meyer's staff at Florida from 2005-09 and at Ohio State from 2012-17.

On Sunday night, the university announced that it expects to conclude its investigation of Meyer for how he handled the dismissal of former assistant coach Zach Smith within the next 14 days.

Ohio State said in a release that a trustees' committee formed to coordinate the investigation had an initial meeting and has hired a firm to conduct the probe of Meyer, who says he followed proper protocol when informed of a 2015 abuse allegation against assistant Zach Smith.

Fans held signs that read "We love Coach Urban", "I stand with Urban" and "Fire ESPN" outside of Ohio Stadium in Columbus.

Meyer was put on administrative leave last week after a report surfaced containing text messages that suggested Meyer was aware of 2015 domestic violence allegations against former Ohio State receivers coach Zach Smith. Really embarrassing. Perhaps the worst of the worst was a man holding a sign that's blatantly mocking the #MeToo movement.

When that announcement does arrive, TCU coaches, players and fans should know if Meyer will be on the sidelines when the Frogs take on the Buckeyes at AT&T Stadium on September 15.

Meyer initially told reporters at Big Ten Media Days on July 25 that he didn't know anything about abuse allegations made by Courtney Smith in October 2015. I respect his coaching ability, but you can't look past the University of Florida. "Yeah, he won two national championships thanks to Tim Tebow and Percy Harvin and countless other players who have been in the NFL since then, but left his entire legacy in burned ashes". Decisions about any action resulting from it will be made by Ohio State President Michael Drake.

The investigation itself is being led by former Chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Mary Jo White.
