PRESIDENT Donald Trump attacked Ohio's favourite son, LeBron James, on Friday night, questioning his intelligence just a day before he was set to hold a rally in the state. He added that Lemon "made Lebron look smart, which isn't easy to do".

In behaviour that has become the normal for the 45th US President, Trump took to his personal Twitter account to post a late-night tweet bashing James.

The statement said: "Just as she always has, the First Lady encourages everyone to have an open dialogue about issues facing children today".

The statement notes that Mrs. Trump has been promoting her Be Best campaign and talking to children about the "importance of responsible online behavior".

James, who recently sat down with CNN anchor Don Lemon to discuss founding the I Promise School for low-income and at-risk kids, gave his unfiltered view of the political world. "He's doing an unbelievable job for his community", the Chicago Bulls legend said.

Of course, the tweet comes on the heels of a monumental week for James.

On Saturday afternoon, Melania Trump also issued a surprising, positive statement about James, but did not reference her husband. As I have said before- Its the biggest compliment you can get.

James described Trump as a "bum" following the furor.

A month later, she opted to go solo prior to departing for a trip with her husband.

CNN, which Trump has repeatedly said is a purveyor of "fake news", then mocked the president and first lady about their television viewing habits and even slighted Melania's #BeBest platform. In one highly discussed tweet, James called Trump a "bum" and criticized him for deciding to rescind an invitation for the Golden State Warriors, the most recent National Basketball Association champions, to visit the White House.

Michael Jordan has been criticized throughout his NBA career and time as an owner for not using his voice to raise more awareness to important things other than basketball.

James himself steered clear of the matter on social media, on Saturday only tweeting a picture of students at his new school with the message: "Let's get it kids".
