She was 92 and passed Sunday at her Los Angeles home, according to representatives. Even while appearing on The Facts of Life, she also appeared on The Love Boat, playing three different roles in four episodes between 1982 and 1985.

'About seven years ago, I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer - which is a miracle that they found it because usually, it's too late. I've had a great life, but I have so many wonderful things happening.

During her first cancer battle, the actress went through gruelling chemotherapy and lost all her hair, but ended up beating the cancer.

She earned her big break when she joined Lear's Diff'rent Strokes. "I'm grateful for the life I've already had".

She first appeared as Edna Garrett on "Diff'rent Strokes" in 1978 before earning her own spinoff, "The Facts of Life", the following year. Mrs. Garrett was the house mother at an all-girls' boarding school, and helped the students through some of the toughest moments of their lives. "ER", "Pretty Little Liars" and "Girl Meets World", as well as a regular gig voicing "Nanny" in the animated "101 Dalmations: The Series" from 1997 to 1998, as well as appearances in movies like "Bananas" and "Ricki and the Flash".

In 2014, the cast including Mindy Cohn, Geri Jewell, Lisa Whelchel and Nancy McKeon all got back together for a 35-year reunion.

In the early 1970s, Rae moved to Los Angeles with her then-husband, composer and music editor John Strauss, and their sons Andy and Larry.

Rae departed The Facts of Life after Season 7, at which point Cloris Leachman stepped in as Mrs. Garrett's sister, Beverly Ann, for the last two seasons. She was remembered fondly by her co-star Todd Bridges.

Comedians Kathy Griffin and Gilbert Gottfried, as well as Broadway star Audra McDonald, also paid their respects via social media.

The star leaves behind her two sons Larry and Andrew Strauss.

In an interview with HuffPost in 2016, Rae said she never got exhausted of hearing people yell "Mrs. Garrett!" whenever they saw her.

At the time of that interview, Rae was acting at Chicago's Briar Street Theatre in the role of Daisy Werthan, the irascible heroine of "Driving Miss Daisy".
