Trump took to Twitter late Friday night to bash Lemon after his interview on Monday with James, and ended up slandering the celebrity athlete as well.

During the interview, James and Lemon toured the school and discussed sports, politics and race relations.

That criticism drew the ire of the President, who was critical of James and Lemon in a tweet sent out late Friday evening.

On Saturday, Jordan ignored Trump's praise of him and said he has James' back. "What I noticed over the last few months that he's kind of used sport to kind of divide us, and that's something that I can't relate to".

"He's doing an fantastic job for his community", Jordan, now owner of the National Basketball Association's Charlotte Hornets, told NBC News through a spokesperson.

Early Saturday afternoon ― when public controversy over Trump's tweet had been raging for hours ― James sent out a tweet of his own, but not one directly aimed at Trump.

Lemon asked James if he would consider running for president, to which the sports star said: "Let's see first".

LeBron James drew the backing of sports, media and politics personalities after he was insulted by US President Donald Trump. She complimented James opening his I Promise School and added she would be open to visit.

Though Jordan hasn't played in years, fans have endlessly argued about which athlete is better on the pro-basketball court - James or Jordan.

The gay news anchor fired back, tweeting, "Who's the real dummy?"

"Just as she always has, the First Lady encourages everyone to have an open dialogue about issues facing children today", she said.

James explained why he called Trump a "bum" on his Twitter account.

Mr Trump has repeatedly and strongly criticised the NFL in particular for not punishing players who kneel during the national anthem in a form of protest.

President Donald Trump is turning his wrath on basketball superstar LeBron James.

Others took aim at Trump's controversial immigration policy separating migrant children from their detained families, which saw many minors reportedly held in cages at border facilities. Their history includes trading barbs when Trump revoked an invitation to the White House for the Warriors.
