AT&T has hinted that its first 5G device will be a "puck" rather than a phone, so Verizon's announcement with Motorola for the z3 may allow Verizon to maintain some parity with AT&T on the mobile 5G topic. Moto Z3 is compatible with all previous Moto Mods and the new 5G Moto mods which comes with the phone.

Motorola says the new 5G moto mod will work with the Moto Z3 mobile hotspot to provide a high speed wifi access spot for other devices. The company did showcase the demo of the 5G Moto MOD, which supported 5G connection with 1Gbps or greater data transfer speeds. Of course, that did not happen. So the Moto Z3 owners with the 5G mod will be able to experience gigabit speeds.

The Moto Z3 will launch on Verizon on August 16 for $480, with the Mod arriving early next year for $180.

With both of these phones, you'll still get a sleek device with a premium metal design, a powerful camera on the back, MotoMods, and a clean version of almost stock Android.

Those on a budget (or Verizon Wireless) will want to consider Motorola's latest Moto Z3. The screen is a 6-inch Super AMOLED with 1080x2160 resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. It will be made available only in Ceramic Black colour option. That's because they must have the same overall shape so the Moto Mods can click on in the back. Under the hood, there is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of on-board storage. But Motorola insists that between the Mod's 2,000mAh battery and the phone's 3,000mAh you'll still get a "full day" of use. Sadly the Moto Z3 lacks the 3.5mm headphone jack, but a USB Type-C to 3.5mm jack adapter is provided.

The left side of the Z3 is where you'll find the power button, with volume up and down keys on the right side.

The Moto Z3 runs stock version of Android 8.1 Oreo, and, Motorola is promising "two future upgrades to the latest Android OS, absolutely free".

Otherwise, the Z3 fits the bill as a flagship with dual cameras in the rear with color and monchrome sensors sizing up at 12 megapixels apiece.

Around the back, you'll find a dual-lens camera system created to take portrait mode photos and photos with better overall contrast. Motorola has dual 12-megapixel cameras on the back with a 8-megapixel front-facing camera here. And while many Mods are $100, don't expect the 5G one to come that cheap. The 5G Mod will be launched in early 2019 and the pricing of the same has not been revealed by the brand at the moment.

Internally, the mod has a 2,000-milliamp hour battery, and the Qualcomm X50 modem.
