The local health department told Business Insider that it had received 518 calls and emails related to the possible illness outbreak.

State investigators seem to be treating the outbreak as "a single restaurant issue", Chapman said.

The company intends to reopen the restaurant today, assuming it receives a green light from the health department.

Addressing food safety concerns is among the top priorities for Chipotle Chief Executive Officer Brian Niccol, who took the helm in March.

OH health officials have launched an investigation of Chipotle Mexican Grill after multiple cases of illnesses have been reported from customers who ate at two restaurants in the state. Prior to Tuesday, the Mexican chain had been recovering from a food-safety crisis that battered its brand. Barish said Tuesday in an email that he was not changing his view on the company in light of the incident.

A number of equities analysts recently weighed in on the stock.

In after-hours trading, the burrito chain's shares were down 3.34 percent to $449.95. "Based on the food protection procedures followed by the facility, the inspection team found no reason for the facility to not reopen".

Chipotle's stock has gained 61% this year as the company turned around a sales slump that was caused by illness outbreaks.

Besides online responses, the oh outbreak marks the first crisis that the fast-food chain's new chief has to handle.

The primary concern for the company surrounding the OH situation is likely the threat of renewed perception among customers that the food is unsafe. Accern also gave news stories about the restaurant operator an impact score of 45.762239272966 out of 100, meaning that recent press coverage is somewhat unlikely to have an impact on the stock's share price in the near term. "I think it is something the CEO should address", Maxim Group analyst Stephen Anderson said.

How would you advise Chipotle's communications team to handle these crises, PR Daily readers?
