Eclipse 2018 The Blood Moon will pass over the UK on Friday July 27
26 July, 2018, 14:54
The longest total lunar eclipse of the 21st century will be visible across India on Friday, providing hobbyists and professional stargazers with a rare opportunity to watch the moon being blanketed by the Earth's shadow for over six hours.
A lunar eclipse is when the earth gets between the sun and the full moon. Lots of dust creates a deep red eclipse, while less dust produces a bright coppery hue.
It is also believed that the early moon had a magnetosphere - a magnetic field which would have deflected the sun's deadly electromagnetic radiation - similar to Earth's.
Historically, blood red moons were seen as omen for bad events with their deep red colour.
The moon is at its farthest distance away from Earth during this eclipse, so this will be a Blood Micro Moon, meaning it will appear smaller in the sky.
By around 12.30am on Saturday, the moon will completely move out of the Earth's shadow, glowing its usual white colour.
Mars will add to the spectacle shining brightly below the blood moon as it reaches perihelic opposition - where the Red Planet and the sun are on directly opposite sides of Earth.
What time is the Blood Moon eclipse this week?

The moon will rise at 6:05 p.m. on July 27 and will set at 5:44 a.m. on July 28. In that one, the best viewing is going to be from North and South America. Low-frequency waves refract just enough to pass the earth and land on the moon. "Beyond that, the view of the moon will already be affected by twilight", he said.
The next total lunar eclipse happens on January 21, 2019, according to Pagasa.
According to Space.com, "In New Delhi, the penumbral eclipse will start at 10:44 p.m. local time, when the moon will be well above the horizon, and the umbral phase will begin at 11:54 p.m".
The study says that the most likely theory for how life developed on the Moon - if it did - was that it was brought there by meteorites which "blasted off the surface of the Earth and landed on the moon" bringing with them microorganisms which could have survived the journey and then evolved into lifeforms over millions of years.
