Much of the state is under a Flash Flood Watch through at least Tuesday night. Anywhere from 2 to 4 inches of rain are possible, according to Wilmoth.

Meteorologist Mike Thomas says heavier showers with some thunderstorms are pushing their way northwestward out of southern Maryland.

More heavy showers and thunderstorms are possible through Wednesday.

Some thunderstorms are possible Thursday afternoon and during the evening rush, but they are not expected to be significant.

Quarter-sized hail and 60 miles per hour winds are possible with this storm.

The severe weather expected Monday follows a Sunday that saw strong storms leading to power outages in Palm Beach County and flight delays at some area airports.

With creeks already flooding roads in some communities over the weekend and more rain on the way Monday, forecasters are sounding the alarm for a "significant risk of flash flooding today into Wednesday" for the Washington and Baltimore metro area. In Broward there were weather-related flight delays at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The weather remains very humid, with overnight lows only in the 70s. An approaching cold front also helps keep the rain chances alive, but it does finally bring us a break once it crosses through the region.

WEEKEND OUTLOOK: Some small shower and thunderstorm chances remain for the weekend, but overall it should be much quieter. Drier air will try to move into areas west of New York City on Thursday, and this will tend to limit shower activity to a more scattered variety by then.
