Alisson set for Liverpool medical on Thursday

Noah Ferguson | 20 July, 2018, 01:57

Liverpool have had an offer of €75m for Alisson accepted by Italian side Roma, which will make him the most expensive goalkeeper in the history of football.

Alisson is expected to be announced as a Liverpool player imminently after passing a medical and signing a five-year deal in a transfer worth £66.9m.

The deal will cost the Anfield giants €75 million (£67 million), smashing the amount paid to Benfica by Manchester City for Alisson's compatriot Ederson last summer. Alisson spoke to the Liverpool manager, Jürgen Klopp, on Tuesday and had his heart set on a move to the Champions League finalists.

With his signing, as well as the arrivals of Xherdan Shaqiri, Naby Keita and Fabinho, Liverpool are undoubtedly now one of the favourites to lift the Premier League trophy for the first time since 1990.

As according to reports from French source RMC, Chelsea and Real Madrid have finally agreed to a deal for shot-stopper and Russian Federation 2018 Golden Glove victor Thibaut Courtois, despite the Blues insistent on keeping the Belgian global.

"I will say that a club never acts to damage itself, as every move is made to improve the team overall". "In terms of my life and my career, it's a huge step for me being part of this club and this family".

Liverpool were forced into rethinking their goalkeeping situation after two howlers from German keeper Loris Karius handed Real Madrid a win in last summer's Champions League final.

Alisson's signing will have severe consequences for German stopper Loris Karius who will nearly certainly lose his place in the starting XI.

Liverpool have not had a reliable goalkeeper amongst their ranks since the departure of Pepe Reina to Napoli back in 2013.
