He won the FA Cup last season and leaves with the best Premier League record a 65.1% win-rate of any manager in charge at Stamford Bridge for more than 100 games.

The former Italy manager had a year remaining on his current contract and had already taken charge of pre-season preparations at the club's Cobham training ground outside London.

Ex-Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri has been heavily linked with the Chelsea FC post after Carlo Ancelotti replaced the contoversial Italian coach at Napoli earlier this summer.

Chelsea's sacking of Antonio Conte is a mere formality now as Blues midfielder Cesc Fabregas has paid a tribute to the outgoing Italian tactician on Twitter before the club officially announced his exit.

Chelsea FC finished in fifth spot in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a Champions League spot.

"We wish Antonio every success in his future career".

Sarri will become the 12th manager to take over the reins at Chelsea since Roman Abramovich bought the London club in 2003.

Chelsea have confirmed that they have sacked manager Antonio Conte, though they face the prospect of a prolonged legal battle with the former Juventus boss.

Will Chelsea secure a return to Champions League football this season?

Nearly every top-class manager, available and unavailable, has been linked with Conte's job but in the past month or so, Maurizio Sarri has become the hot favourite.

But it seems Sarri has work to do when it comes to building his staff as according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, none of his backroom boys from Napoli are set to join him at Chelsea.

After winning the title in his first season, where did it all go wrong for Antonio Conte?
