Prince Louis christening: George and Charlotte seen with brother for first time

Hannah Rogers | 10 July, 2018, 11:23

Prince Louis, the youngest son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, has been christened in a private ceremony.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, will baptize Prince Louis.

Princess Charlotte looked precious in a blue dress and matching headband while Prince George sported a short-sleeved white shirt and navy shorts. A royal source said it had been agreed some time ago that the queen would not attend and her absence was not due to any health issues.

At Prince Louis' christening this afternoon at St James's Palace, the three-year-old was spotted hand-in-hand with her parents as she made her way into the chapel for the service.

The duchess, who was wearing Alexander McQueen, added, with a smile: "I hope he stays like this".

The Palace also announced that the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would all be in attendance. "Did they borrow them from the Queen?" one commentator wrote.

Kate's sister Pippa is expecting her first child.

Louis´ other godparents are: Nicholas van Cutsem, whose family is close to the royals; William´s school pal Harry Aubrey-Fletcher; Laura Meade, who is married to William´s close friend James Meade; Kate´s schoolfriend Hannah Carter; and the duchess´s cousin Lucy Middleton.

Louis will wear the handmade replica of the Royal Christening Robe, which in 2008 replaced the original which had been worn for all royal christenings since that of Queen Victoria's eldest daughter in 1841.

The service for Prince Louis was attended by guests including Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, and newlyweds Prince Harry and Meghan.

Hours ahead of Prince Louis' christening on July 9, Kensington Palace revealed the names of the baby boy's godparents. Prince William was by Kate's side, supportive as ever. She completed her look with a hat by Jane Taylor.

Prince Louis Arthur Charles of Cambridge was born on April 23 - St. George's Day, England's national day - at St Mary's Hospital in central London weighing eight pounds and seven ounces (3.8 kilogrammes).
