An ambulance has been seen leaving the site of the Thai cave where divers are carrying out what they hope is a final mission to bring out four boys and their soccer coach still trapped deep inside.

The identity of the rescued boys has not been confirmed by authorities.

The latest rescue operation began at about 10:08 am local time (1.08pm AEST).

The boys were carried out on a stretcher on Tuesday, making them the first two to come out on the rescue's third day.

A spokesperson from the Thai public health authority said that they were in "high spirits" and also claimed that as they are football players, they have high immune systems.

Four boys and their 25-year-old football coach "will be extracted on Tuesday", rescue chief Narongsak Osottanakorn said. Rescue officials said the team's coach, Ekkapol Chantawong, who also remains stranded, was among "the weakest in the group" because he gave up his share of food and water to the children in the early days of their entrapment.

The first thing the Thai boys rescued from a cave said was that they missed their homes and were happy to be out of the cave, officials at the the Chiang Rai hospital said on Sunday.

Some divers rescuing the boys trapped in a cave in northern Thailand have traversed about 10 miles (16 km) over the past two days.

As we enter the day three of the Thai cave rescue mission, the public health permanent secretary Dr Jesada Chokedamrongsuk, from the Ministry of Public Health and Chiangrai Prachanukroh Hospital, spoke to the media this morning (local time) about the health of the eight boys who have been rescued so far.

The first 4 boys who were rescued the other day, aged between 12 and 16, are now allowed to eat normal food once again. Two boys are being treated for mild lung infections, doctors said, adding that medical tests were still ongoing.

Last week, Musk said he was sending teams to Thailand from his private space exploration firm, SpaceX, and engineering firm, Boring Co. which is developing tunneling systems for transport projects.

Another four boys were rescued Monday.

Family members have seen at least some of the boys from behind a glass isolation barrier, and Jedsada said doctors may let the boys walk around their beds Tuesday.

Five people remain trapped in the cave, and according to the New York Times, the plan is to rescue them on Tuesday.

The Thai soccer team ventured into the Tham Luang cave complex after practice and became trapped by rising waters more than a fortnight ago.

The boys have been in the cave since June 23 when they were exploring the cave and unexpected rain flooded the tunnels. The rescued boys are in quarantine, BBC News reports.

On Sunday, Musk tweeted a series of videos showing a team of divers testing the pod in the swimming pool at Palisades Charter High School.

Musk has offered a "kid-sized" submarine, named Wild Boar after the kids' soccer team, to help in the rescue operation.
