The GT in its name stands for GPU Turbo, which is a new tech that makes more of the existing graphics hardware and claims to increase performance by up to 60 per cent, while decreasing battery power drain by up to 30 per cent. The company has already confirmed that the last two generations of Huawei and Honor flagship devices will be receiving the GPU Turbo feature through an OTA update later this year.

The software update is now in beta, but should start arriving to all phones no later than July 15.

A number of Honor devices will also receive the update later this year. The single-thread performance of a GPU Turbo enabled mid-range phone can beat the performance of multi-thread performance of some flagship phones.

With the exception of the increased RAM count, GPU Turbo update, and a new camera mode for taking night shots, the Honor 10 GT is identical to the standard Honor 10 that debuted in May.

The Verge reports the Honor 10 GT will have the same specs as the Honor 10 apart from the RAM. That makes for better night-time photography even when no tripod is being used.

The new device will also get Super Night Scene, as used by the Huawei P20. The 8 GB variant of the Honor 10 will appear for a flash sale on July 24 at Honors online store and JD.com, but price is yet to be unveiled. In-house HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC paired with 8GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage powers the smartphone with a battery capacity of 3400mAh. It should be noted that this feature will roll out to older phones as well. Also, in terms of the camera setup, a main 16-megapixel sensor is accompanied by a secondary 24-megapixel lens on the rear, while in the selfie department, yet another 24-megapixel camera is present. Lastly, it will be running EMUI 8.1 running on top of Android 8.1 Oreo.
