Cedella Roman told the Canadian Broadcast Co that two US Customs and Border Protection agents apprehended her on May 21 on a beach south of White Rock, British Columbia.

Roman had been visiting her mother in British Columbia to work on her English when the incident occurred, according to a CBC report. Roman was quickly stopped by a border patrol officer who informed her that she had crossed the border illegally.

"I said to myself, well I may have crossed the border - but they'll probably only give me a fine or they'll tell me to go back to Canada or they'll give me a warning".

"I told him I had not done it on objective, and that I didn't understand what was happening", she told CBC.

They then transferred her nearly 125 miles south to the Tacoma Northwest Detention Center.

"They put me in the caged vehicles and brought me into their facility. They searched me everywhere", Roman told the news site. Ferne blasted US immigration officials after her daughter's release, accusing them of setting a "trap" and arresting her daughter without evidence.

Though a sign close to the railroad tracks warned of the border crossing, Roman saw no signs on the beach and said that it was an accident. "It's like a trap.anybody can be caught at the border like this".

The officers claimed she had illegally entered the U.S.in Blaine, Washington, and detained her, Roman said.

With no identification on her and just the clothes she was wearing, Ms Roman started to realise the gravity of her situation.

Instead, she was transferred to Homeland Security's Tacoma Northwest Detention Center where she stayed until June 6.

The ordeal happened as the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" immigration policy got underway in the United States, where immigrants caught crossing the southern border with Mexico were immediately referred for criminal prosecution - a practice that has led to the separations of thousands of children from their families.

According to her Facebook page, Roman says she lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The family is unsure if Roman will be allowed back into the United States.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesperson told CBC that, accident or not, the rules for handling illegal immigration are the same. -Canada border and is inscribed with the words "CHILDREN OF A COMMON MOTHER" on one side and "BRETHREN DWELLING TOGETHER IN UNITY" on the other, meant to celebrate the friendship between the two North American countries.
