The fast-food chain's page on Russia's most popular social network, VK (VKontakte), announced on Tuesday that Burger King was offering "a reward for the girls, who would get pregnant from the worldwide football starts", who arrived in the country for the FIFA World Cup.

"Each will receive [$64,000] and a lifetime supply of Whoppers".

It promised a reward of free burgers to women who get "the best football genes" that will "promote the Russian team's success for generations to come".

Burger King Russia posted an offer on social media offering a lifetime supply of Whoppers to any Russian woman who got pregnant from World Cup players.

Critics said the advertising portrayed Russian women as sexual predators hunting for prey, and was sexist and demeaning. "Forward! We believe in you!"

We had to use Google translate to interpret the copy. A promo on social media contained an image of a girl with the same haircut and clothes Shurygina wore during her famous talk show appearance.

In a post on Russia's version of Facebook, VKontakte, Burger King Russia said "we offer apologies for the announcement we made". "As soon as it was brought to our attention, we had it removed". "There probably will be girls who will meet [foreign fans] and have children", Pletnyova told the radio station Wednesday.

Last year, Burger King also found itself in hot water in Russian Federation after one of its ads used the likeness of an underage rape victim, Diana Shurygina, whose story made headlines across the country.

The chain had included a cartoonish depiction of a young woman only identified by Russian media as Diana S - then just 17 - who claimed she was raped at a party, and who later became a meme when she used her fingers to indicate how little she had been drinking on that night.

Burger King in Russian Federation last year made reference to a 17-year-old woman who was allegedly raped at a party, according to the Washington Post.
