Tesla's August Autopilot update will begin to enable "full self-driving features"

Tesla produced the first version of the Roadster from 2008 to 2012.

Exactly which self-driving features will be rolled out in the update remain to be seen, but speaking with Tesla, the brand suggest the aforementioned features won't turn Level 2 autonomous vehicles into fully self-driving, Level 5 cars overnight.

Musk has aspirations to place these boosters all around the auto, not just on the rear of the vehicle for thrust. The mentioned specifications were apparently for the "base version" of the next-gen Roadster. If you'd rather just have the standard auto, which is still pegged to be capable of 0-60 miles per hour in 1.9 seconds, you'll get to keep those rear seats.

Tesla unveiled the new Roadster in November.

"The software update is good news", said analyst Chaim Siegel from Elazar Advisors, adding the stock was still benefiting from last week's prediction by Musk that it would finally hit its production target for its Model 3 sedan.

The rocket boosters take the form of a "sophisticated bottle" that fires bursts of high-pressure air out the back of the sports vehicle, the electric-transport news site adds. Instead, Tesla's new vehicle will be a halo product, with performance to beat even the fastest petrol production cars ever made. "The point of all this is just to give a hardcore smackdown to gasoline cars". The version 9 update will be pushed out over-the-air to Tesla owners. The rocket engines will obviously help the auto accelerate faster and reach higher top speed. That's not as fast the Koenigsegg Agera S, but with that acceleration, I don't think anyone will mind.

The system will most often be powered by the vehicle's battery pack, according to Musk. The new Roadster starts at $200,000 and is expected to arrive in 2020. The Tesla Roadster's range will top out at 620 miles or 1,000km too, though that's nearly certainly when you're not using much of its performance.
