Jaguar Now Offering E-Pace With Adaptive Suspension, Cheaper Engine

Jaguar E-Pace 2019 Jaguar E-Pace updated with new engine, bound for Oz

But the update of which Jaguar seems most proud is the addition of its "Smart Settings" tech, which debuted on the all-electric I-Pace.

The Jaguar E-Pace hasn't been on sale that long, but already it's getting updates.

The British brand has announced it will expand the line-up for its little E-Pace luxury SUV, which already features a not so little range of 38 variants.

Fuel economy is a claimed 34.4 mpg combined, but there is a slight anomaly when it comes to the Carbon dioxide emissions of this unit.

- Jaguar is offering the E-Pace with Smart Settings and Adaptive Dynamic suspensions.

E-Pace will recognise the driver approaching when it senses the key fob and smartphone using a Bluetooth signal, and then adjust the seat, climate, and infotainment system based on the driver's normal preference.

For example, this could lead to the system learning to pre-heat the steering wheel and seats on a cold day, or perhaps change the media source on a particular day of the week or time of day because it's learned that's what that driver normally does. So the new cost of admission makes the base E-Pace the cheapest model Jaguar offers, undercutting the £31,505 base price on the XE.

The system also has an Intelligent Phone Reminder function will also tell the driver if they forget their smartphone, while the Predictive Call List learns patterns of phone use to cue up popular contacts at the appropriate time. You can get Smart Settings as part of the so-called Connect Pro Pack, which also brings a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, navigation, real-time traffic and parking availability info. This provides greater scope to tune the balance between handling responses and body control.

Alongside the new engine, Jaguar's introducing clever self-learning technology dubbed Smart Settings.

Smart Settings is part of the Connect Pro Pack, which is now standard on the E-Pace S and above. It monitors body movement every two milliseconds and tweaks the dampers accordingly, in an attempt to deliver a relaxed ride on rough roads, and a sporty one when the driver demands. The filters are integrated into the after-treatment system and trap ultrafine particulates as the exhaust gases pass through.

Although adaptive suspension isn't new to Jaguar, it wasn't available with the E-Pace when it was launched past year. In a petrol engine, under normal driving conditions, the trapped soot will be oxidised into Carbon dioxide and the filter regenerated whenever the driver lifts off the accelerator, Jaguar said.
