The term - pronounced tie-con not tey-kuhn - is said to be roughly translated as "lively young horse" in reference to the imagery at the heart of the Porsche crest.
Porsche has been using Mission E to describe its first battery-electric vehicle since the concept came out, but that won't be the name when it comes to production.
The vehicle had previously been known as the Mission E. It will have a range of over 300 miles, produce over 600 horsepower, and accelerate from 0-60 mph in under 3.5 seconds. Finally, Porsche looked at Volkswagen's range of spare part numbers when naming the 911.
The German automaker announced it at the opening ceremony for the "70 years of the Porschesports car" special exhibition at the Porsche Museum today. From that additional investment, $588 million will be spent on the Taycan and its derivatives, which may include higher performance models or taller wagon Cross Turismo, another $1.2 billion for electrifying current Porsche vehicles, and more than $800 million for charging infrastructure and further research.
"Our new electric sports auto is strong and dependable; it's a vehicle that can consistently cover long distances and that epitomizes freedom", Porsche executive board chairman Oliver Blume said at a ceremony in Stuttgart celebrating the company's 70th anniversary. The car's top speed will be 155 miles an hour. Some of the spotted cars have been wearing exhaust exit surrounds that were fake and fitted to hide the car's identity. We'll re-visit the Mission E's specs shortly, but for now you should know that Porsche's upcoming EV will not, in fact, be called the Mission E when it becomes available for purchase in 2019.
All-wheel drive is expected to be standard on all versions initially, but there is the possibility of Porsche launching a more affordable rear-wheel-drive edition in the future. Porsche plans to set up the 350-kw charging stations at dealers and a few other locations throughout the U.S. Features such as the flared haunches, LED tail-light strip and coupe-like rear end will remain to echo the looks of the 911 sports vehicle.
