Apple launched a brand new site/portal yesterday which allows you to download a copy of all your data the company has on you. It can take up to a week to prepare the downloads if large amounts of photos and videos are involved.

The company is also offering access to data stored in iCloud, such as Safari bookmarks, photos, calendar entries and more. For the most part, the data is gathered so as to dictate your purchasing customs, political affiliations, and interests so as to feed you advertising or information which could be most relatable for you.

This new privacy page is partly in response to the new European policy called GDPR, which requires internet companies to tell users which data they're collecting and what they plan to do with it.

The ability to download user data is available only to those in the European Union at the moment, as well as those in Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland. But Apple says it will be rolling out the service worldwide in the coming months. For now, the only options available on USA accounts are "Correct your data" and "Delete your account". Likewise, you'll be able to get information on physical in-store and online purchases, as well as Apple Care repairs. Some services like iMessage, iTunes and iCloud won't work while your data is deactivated.

You can download any or all of the data. All you have to do is log in with your Apple ID, and voila, you've got access to it.

The new Data & Privacy site also carries links that customers can apply to update their account details, temporarily deactivate the account, or delete them permanently. However there is the question of can Apple back up their claims on how they value their users' privacy?
