The President was warmly received at the Academy, where graduates and their families gathered at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

He also used the speech to highlight his own efforts to boost USA defense spending, touting what he called a "great rebuilding of the United States military". "Our country has regained the respect that we used to have long ago overseas, yes they're respecting us again, yes, America is back".

His remarks come a day after he cancelled a planned summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un amid aggressive language from that country.

"We are not going to apologize for America, we are going to stand up for America - no more apologies", he said in his address to graduates.

Trump said Friday that "we will have the strongest military that we ever had".

The president also said First Lady Melania Trump is doing well, after spending most of last week in the hospital after a kidney procedure.

The president surprised the graduates by remaining until he had shaken the hands of each one.

On Twitter Friday, Trump said he looks "forward to being with some of the greatest people on earth!"

President Trump addressed the U.S. Naval Academy graduation, where he said "we are witnessing the great reawakening of the American spirit".

"I fought for you", said Trump of the raises.

Trump culminated the section of his address with a simple declaration: "America is back". "We know the best way to prevent war is to be fully prepared for war".

Attendees of the Naval Academy commencement in Annapolis, Maryland probably had no doubt who President Trump was referring to in his speech. Trump pulled the USA out of that summit a day earlier, citing belligerent rhetoric by Kim Jong Un.

Trump will speak to 1,042 newly commissioned ensigns and second lieutenants.

"America is back", Trump told the sea of graduates sitting side by side in blue and white dress uniforms.
