On Wednesday, the "nation's doctor" Jerome Adams was awaiting take off on a Delta flight at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport when the flight crew alerted the cabin to a medical emergency.

Adams tweeted that a call went out requesting a doctor.

Adams tweeted that he was aboard a Delta Airlines flight to Jackson, Mississippi, when the crew asked for a doctor to help them with a "medical emergency". Adams assisted the passenger out of the plane and even contacted the patient's spouse to relay what had happened. He and the two nurses escorted the passenger to the gate, where medical staff were waiting. "Why yes - yes there was". "I was glad to be able to assist!" There is no word on what exactly caused the patient to lose consciousness or how he or she is now doing, but in Adams' tweet, he stated that the patient is doing well.

Adams, an anesthesiologist, was nominated to the post in June by President Donald Trump and confirmed by Congress in August. As surgeon general, he oversees the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, a group of more than 6,700 uniformed officer public health professionals. He took office September 5.

After his visit to UMMC, Dr. Adams will visit the Harbor House Chemical Dependency Services in Byram to meet with staff who work daily to combat the opioid epidemic and residents of the facility who are there seeking help for addiction.
