According to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Milwaukee Bucks have officially hired Budenholzer to be their new head coach.

Budenholzer had emerged as the clear frontrunner in recent days, and was reported as having taken a breakfast meeting with Bucks stars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton on Wednesday morning, following a Tuesday meeting with ownership in NY.

This is a developing story.

Budenholzer has experience as an National Basketball Association head coach, having last coached the Atlanta Hawks from 2013-18.

Those are arguably the two most important players on Milwaukee's roster, so it's clear the team wants to ensure its next coach and its best players will be on the same page.

Before the split, the Hawks gave Budenholzer permission to speak with the Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks for their coaching openings.

The Bucks fired head coach Jason Kidd during the year. They have made the playoffs in three of the past four seasons, but they haven't advanced past the first round since 2000-01 when they made the conference finals. Unfortunately, players like Al Horford, Jeff Teague, and Paul Millsap ended up going elsewhere and the Hawks were one of the worst teams in the National Basketball Association in 2017-18. Milwaukee will need to upgrade their front-court this offseason, but there is plenty of talent for Budenholzer to work with.

Budenholzer spent 17 years as an assistant under Spurs coach Gregg Popovich before his hiring in Atlanta in 2013.

Budenholzer also comes to the Bucks with some hardware to prove his track record.

Having built teams separately centered around success on both ends of the court, Budenholzer is an intriguing fit for the Bucks.

The Milwaukee Bucks have found their man.
