Previously, a video surfaced on the internet wherein Tesla Model X driver showed up to help the truck stuck on a snowy road in the region of Raleigh, North Carolina.

On Tuesday, Australian airline Qantas shared a video of the Tesla Model X P100D towing a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner at Melbourne airport.

And now, Tesla Model X P100D has become the first production electric vehicle to tow a passenger aircraft, as claimed by Qantas. At the very least, the Model X did set a new Guinness World Record for the "heaviest tow by a production electric passenger vehicle".

The event not only proved Tesla's towing power, but it also kick-started Qantas's new sustainability campaign, showing how innovation can increase sustainability in the transportation industry. Compared to other models, which have also pulled airplanes successfully in the past, such as Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayene S Diesel, the Tesla Model X P100D offers far more torque.

Although it's rated to tow 2500kg, the Model X managed to pull the 130-tonne airplane almost 300 metres. Its dual electric motors generated a huge amount of torque (967 Nm), which helped it tow the Dreamliner to nearly 300 metres. It is not known how much battery the Tesla was left with the completion of the stunt.

Comparatively, the official towing capacity of the model is said to be just 2.5 tons.
