The Longhorns played at Alabama in 1902, and the Crimson Tide traveled to Austin in 1915.

Alabama and Texas last met in the BCS National Championship Game on January 7, 2010.

Alabama and Texas announced a home-and-home series Wednesday that will feature games during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Depending on how Tom Herman has turned around Texas, these two games could be truly massive.

The first game will take place in Austin, Texas, on September 10, 2022 with the Longhorns making a return trip to Tuscaloosa the following year.

Texas (898/2nd NCAA) and Alabama (891/5th NCAA) have combined to play 248 years of football and post 1,789 all-time victories. The traditional college football powers have only met three times on their home fields with the last coming in Austin in 1922. All matchups since the 1947 Sugar Bowl have come in postseason appearances.

"We're thrilled to be able to add another incredible non-conference opponent with the University of Texas for a home-and-home series", said Alabama Director of Athletics Greg Byrne.

As expected, there were multiple opinions about Alabama and Texas scheduling this series.

The schools first reached a two-for-one agreement that called for UCF to host Texas in 2007 to open what was then called Bright House Networks Stadium.

The Knights' final road game in the series repeatedly was pushed back until Texas announced the finale was canceled.

The biggest impact comes on Texas's upcoming series against Ohio State.

As a side note, Texas and Ohio State are pushing back their nonconference games, originally scheduled for those years, to 2025 and 2026.

Texas is second in the NCAA with 898 all-time wins.
