Zlatan Ibrahimovic has dropped the strongest hint yet that he will be lining up for Sweden in the upcoming 2018 World Cup finals.

After scoring twice in his debut as a reserve, Ibrahimović received his first career MLS start Saturday against the Chicago Fire - and proceeded to head home a goal shortly before halftime.

After Ola Kamara had two goals ruled out for offside in the opening stages of the match, Ibrahimovic broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time when he headed Ashley Cole's cross past Fire goalkeeper Richard Sanchez.

He said: 'I want to play football, we'll see what happens.

The ex-Manchester United striker retired from worldwide following Euro 2016, and played no part in Sweden's successful qualifying campaign for the tournament in Russian Federation.

The win lifts Galaxy into second place in the Western Conference standings with 10 points from six games.

Toronto reached the CONCACAF Champions League final during the week after upstaging seven-time victor America.

But Ibrahimovic had found the going harder last weekend as the Galaxy were well-beaten by Sporting Kansas City in a 2-0 loss.
