In the video, Bevin never explicitly mentioned his comments on sexual assault, instead he referred to what he called "unintended consequences" of schools closing.

Matt Bevin apologized Sunday for saying that youngsters had been sexually abused as a result of they had been left house alone whereas lecturers rallied to ask lawmakers to override his vetoes.

Bevin apologized a number of occasions in Sunday's video and stated many individuals misunderstood and "didn't absolutely admire" his earlier assertion.

"The words that people say can have unintended consequences", Bevin said in a video posted to his administration's YouTube page.

Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear, a Democrat and Bevin foe, called the governor's comments "morally reprehensible".

Bevin, who would see his veto of an education-boosting state budget overridden by state lawmakers, characterized the attitudes of protesting teachers as cavalier and flippant about student safety.

"I guarantee you somewhere in Kentucky today a child was sexually assaulted that was left at home because there was nobody there to watch them", he said.

"His insults of teachers over the a year ago have been beneath the decorum of any respectable elected official", Nishimuta wrote in a statement. "If we want to create a world without child abuse, we can not tolerate the governor's comments".
