The Japanese government bonds remained flat Monday as investors wait to watch the country's trade balance data for the month of March and the national consumer price inflation (CPI) data for the similar period, scheduled to be released on April 17 and April 19 by 23:50GMT and 23:30GMT respectively.

Wholesale inflation witnessed a growth of 2.48 percent in February and 5.11 percent in March, 2017. Retail inflation also slipped to a five-month low of 4.28 per cent in March on account of decline in food prices.

Prices of the other major group under the WPI, manufactured products, which comprise almost 64.23 per cent of the index, recorded a 3.03 per cent rise. The January's rate of increase in price rise has been revised to 3.02 percent from 2.84 percent.

Inflation in non-food articles too declined by 0.3% to 120.2 from 120.6 for the previous month due to lower price of guar seed, niger seed, floriculture, raw cotton, cottonseed, mustard seed, among others. Deflation in pulses was 20.58 per cent, in vegetables (2.70 per cent), wheat (1.19 per cent) and egg, meat and fish (0.82 per cent) in March. However, the price of raw silk (7%), mesta and hides (raw) (5% each), sunflower (4%), soyabean (3%), fodder (2%) and raw wool, coir fibre and raw rubber (1% each) moved up. However, the price of iron ore (15%), chromite (13%), manganese ore (6%), limestone (5%) and zinc concentrate and lead concentrate (1% each) moved up.

The index for "food articles" group declined by 0.4 per cent to 137.2 from 137.8 for the previous month, despite a price rise in items like ragi, jowar, peas/chawali, moong and paddy, among others.

The primary articles hold weightage of 22.62% in WPI.

The index for fuel and power declined by 0.1 per cent to 98 (provisional) from 98.1 (provisional) in February. This index holds 64.23% of WPI. WPI Food Index holds 24.38% in the overall wholesale inflation.

Food and beverage prices were 0.9 per cent up, on an annual basis, while the price of utilities and housing has increased by 4.6 per cent and transportation costs were 0.7 per cent higher compared to a year earlier.
