Mohamed Salah joined two Liverpool greats as he scored his 40th goal of a superb season in his side's 3-0 rout of Bournemouth to consolidate third spot in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Egyptian's finish was a delight as he looped a header over Begovic from 12 yards, but it owed much to a majestic arching pass from Alexander-Arnold from the right touchline.

With his effort at Anfield, the Egypt global becomes the first Premier League player to score 40 goals and above across all competitions in a single season since Cristiano Ronaldo - 42 in the 2007-08 campaign.

With Salah's 30th goal this season, he widened the gap to five goals between him and Tottenham's Harry Kane in the Premier League's top scorer race.

On a balmy night at Anfield, goals from the devastating front three of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino sealed the three points against a rather passive Bournemouth outfit to boost their chances of the top four finish.

Klopp, who said his team were "like lions", said any initial reservations over Salah - a £34m signing from Roma last summer - had been dispelled.

Firmino's 90th-minute third goal made it 300 for Liverpool in well under three seasons since Klopp took over, but he insisted they can still improve in attacking areas by not always looking for Salah. In the situation now, with a lot of games around - and they are all unbelievably important - then controlling a game like this is the most important thing to do, to be honest.

Bournemouth, who did not test Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius until Andrew Surman's late shot, remain 11th on 38 points.

"That's really good and we have to carry it on for a few games to come".

Salah missed a good chance early on from a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross, and though the forward was troubling the opposition defence in terms of his pace and positioning, his finishing, at least initially, wasn't up to scratch.

"I thought we dominated the game". It gave us a mountain to climb. You won't see a better goal than that this weekend, a real team goal.

"Our lads tried to stay in the game as long as they could and the second goal is probably the one that kills it".

Coming just four days after their 2-1 win over Man City in the Champions League, Liverpool showed no sign of a European hangover and instead produced a hugely mature showing.
