"I believe that I was a victim of racial discrimination while in Kerala", Robinson said in the post. "I then told the producers about the discrimination, but was told they would compensate if the movie did well at the box office", said Samuel. Robinson, who began his career as an actor in 2013, has appeared in several productions in Africa such as Walt Disney's 'Desperate Housewives Africa'. In a detailed Facebook post, Samuel A. Robinson wrote, "I'm saying this now because i can not sit back and allow it happen to another helpless young black actor".
Balram is of the opinion that the remuneration of Rs. 1,80,000 given to the African actor for a five-month long schedule for all the activities related with the movie including its promotion was very less indeed. In the new post, the actor said that he was not subjected to any racial discrimination from the people of Kerala and that he was exclusively talking about the producers of the movie. "Say no to racial or caste discrimination", he states.
He, however, showered praises to the director Zakariya Mohammed, who according to the actor "did his best to help but as he was not financing the movie himself, there was very little change he could foster".
In an earlier interview with TNIE, Samuel said the positive response to the film was overwhelming: "They keep saying, "I love you Sudu".
Regarding allegation of racism the producers said it was painful to them.
While he spoke up about his experience, he, however, does not have any grouse with his director, Zakariya. But nothing directly, in my face, for the most part. I didn't want to say anything before because I was trying to be patient, but now I am ready to speak up.
However, in another Facebook post, the young actor made it clear that he did not experience any "racist treatment" from the public in Kerala.
Speaking to TNM, Samuel said that he'd chose to open up now because the producers had gone back on their word.
He also said that the argument by the producers that Samuel had signed the contract only after agreeing for this payment, and that he could have chosen to not to cooperate with the movie for that amount, was only technical.
"I am not a newcomer. I went ahead as I wanted to explore Indian cinema", he said.
Samuel has also put up a video in which he says he was offended by how he was treated and says he feels he was singled out this way only because of his colour.
The producers further said that though the film has been successful, share of profits would not be distributed among the cast and crew "until due course of time elapses and unless the usual procedures in the film industry are completed".
They also suspected that the actor's allegations were prompted by some "misinterpretation of certain false information" provided by some sources.
The film, which released on March 23, was a commercial success.
