Mark Uffer, the chief executive of the Corona Regional Medical Center, confirmed to ABC News that the older Turpin siblings were discharged from the hospital, and said the staff wishes "these courageous siblings continued strength as they take the next steps in their journey".

The siblings were taken from their parents' home after a 17-year-old daughter of the couple tipped off police about the alleged abuse in January when she escaped the house and called 911 on a deactivated cellphone. All but the youngest were fed very little food on a schedule, leaving them severely malnourished.

"They're joyful, warm, and considerate".

Obsorn said that as the siblings begin their new lives, they don't want to be seen as victims.

The siblings, ages 18 to 29, aren't dwelling on anger but on their recovery and the things they'll now get to experience, Osborn said.

Osborn says that since the children have acclimated to modern life, they are enjoying firsts like making Mexican food and ice cream sandwiches.

Osborn and several others ABC News spoke with who have interacted with the children said that although the children were refused any exposure to the outside world, their naiveté combined with their native intelligence makes them absolutely charming to be around.

Their parents, who are facing more than 40 torture and abuse charges, are now in jail.

The lawyer said the siblings are receiving continual occupational, physical and psychological therapy, and they are looking forward to the prospect of learning other adult skills, including driving a auto, which none of the adults have ever done.

David and Louise Turpin, whose children ranged in age from 2 to 29 when the parents were arrested in January, have pleaded not guilty to more than 40 charges including torture, false imprisonment, abuse of a dependent adult, and child abuse. Prosecutors say they would punish infractions like washing above the wrist with punishments like being hogtied or being shackled to a bed, sometimes for months at a time.

David and Louise Turpin have denied all allegations of abuse.

Osborn told ABC News that the older siblings are undergoing occupational, physical and psychological therapy.

Numerous siblings have cognitive impairment and nerve damage as a result of the abuse, officials said. The older siblings rarely took trips in the vehicle, and so the concept of driving themselves seemed unusual.

The prospect of driving a vehicle one day was, in fact, so novel that the boys joked that they'd need to wear football helmets for safety.

"Some asked whether they could be nurses without having to give injections or seeing much blood", he said, smiling.

Although largely kept from the outside world, the Turpin children apparently had some access to the Internet.

"Victims in these kinds of cases, they tell their story", he said.
