Junaid lynching case: SC admits plea for CBI probe

SC seeks Centre’s reply on Junaid lynching case Junaid lynching case: SC admits plea for CBI probe

A Bench, led by Justice Kurian Joseph, issued notice to the CBI and the Haryana government on Mr. Jalalluddin's petition, which alleged a concerted attempt to cover up the true nature of the crime committed against his minor son.

The centre today informed the Supreme Court that the Central Bureau of Investigation, or CBI has registered a preliminary inquiry in the Staff Selection Commission's (SSC) paper leak case and is investigating the matter.

The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to re-examine the appeal for a CBI investigation into the murder of 15-year-old Junaid Khan on board a Mathura-bound train in June last year, two weeks after the Punjab and Haryana High Court dismissed the plea filed by the victim's father.

Junaid was returning home to Khandawali village after shopping for Eid in Delhi when the incident happened. The bench insisted then that law and order was a primary concern for the court and sought reports from states on investigation into such cases. It has been projected as if the occurrence/events were sudden without any element of perpetrators having been acted in conspiracy. The accused were not booked by the investigating agency for hate crime offences, which is evident from the sequence of events.

The high court had said that there appeared to be no "deliberate attempt" to derail the investigation in the matter and the case had no "national or global ramifications".

The court had said that it would rule in favour of compensation for Junaid's father if he filed a proper petition seeking so. The trial of the case was at present pending before the Faridabad court.
