YouTube extends its 'Dark Theme' to Android and iOS

YouTube extends its 'Dark Theme' to Android and iOS YouTube extends its 'Dark Theme' to Android and iOS

Once installed, users are able to select their profile header and navigate to a new page where they are given the option to pick either the default light theme or switch to the new dark theme.

For the unaware, Dark Mode is a feature that essentially flips YouTube's normal white color scheme to one mostly composed of various shades of black and gray.

It looks like Google is in the process of rolling out a new update for the YouTube app, which will add a new dark mode, similar to the one that's been released on desktop a year ago. Offering a dark theme on YouTube also makes sense from an aesthetic perspective because it gives the app a more cinematic feel. Apple's iOS will be the first to get Dark Mode as YouTube starts pushing it out today.

Back in January, Mac Rumors reported the initial test of dark mode on iOS after a Reddit user found the feature in his recently updated YouTube app. The dark theme as well accentuates the colours in the app, drawing the true colours of the videos out.

If you're a regular YouTube viewer, you've probably already heard of the platform's "Dark Mode" functionality.

The update is rolling out to iOS users today and should arrive soon for Android users.
