Smith was arrested last August 17 for allegedly assaulting his sister's then-boyfriend, Christopher Woods, last July 4.

His plea will have him serving one year in prison with three years probation, but if convicted as charged, Smith faces a maximum sentence of seven years.

Sean Smith is once again set to be a free agent, at least if rumors from Bill Williamson are correct that the Oakland Raiders have made a decision to release the veteran cornerback.

Attorney Jonathan Dennis said Woods "felt the sentence, obviously, was not as strict as it should have been, but he's pleased he's admitting guilt".

As the Raiders continue to craft and fine-tune Jon Gruden's roster for 2018, Oakland is parting ways with at least one big-name veteran.

Smith was signed as a big-ticket free agent in 2016 to a four-year, $38 million deal. He allowed opposing quarterbacks to post a 116.5 passer rating when targeting him in 2016, according to SportRadar.

In two seasons with Oakland, Smith had 4 total interceptions and 15 passes defended, but the boxscore doesn't tell the full, largely disappointing story. That was down from a 113.3 rating in his one-plus season under Norton. Smith was benched early in his Raiders career and failed to lock down a cornerback position that has since been given to last year's first round rookie, Gareon Conley. TJ Carrie, who started all 16 games in 2017, is set to become a free agent.

Newhouse started 14 games at right tackle for the Raiders in 2017, and has played in 100 games with 70 starts over his eight-year National Football League career. The Raiders released David Amerson, a starter last season when he was healthy, in February. He also has 47 punt returns for 378 yards and 29 kickoff returns for 701 yards.
