Alex Ovechkin scores 600th career goal

Ovechkin celebrated the milestone with his shot past Connor Hellebuyck in the second period of Monday's game against the Winnipeg Jets.

From the opening faceoff it was pretty clear that he was determined to make it happen.

After the game, Kuzy had the quote of the night when asked for his reaction of Alex Ovechkin's 600th career goal. Since the Capitals selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in 2009, he leads the National Hockey League in goals (600), points (1,109) and power-play goals (225).

Monday's game was the 990th game of Ovechkin's career.

Only three players achieved the feat in fewer games: Wayne Gretzky (718), Mario Lemieux (719) and Brett Hull (900). Now, the next obvious question for the 32-year-old Russian superstar is whether or not he'll eventually retire as the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer. He is the NHL's only player to score at least 30 goals in every season since the 2005-06 campaign.

With those two Ovechin reclaimed sole possession of first place and is back on track for what could be yet another goal-scoring crown and perhaps 50-goal season. Maybe even the best.
